Surfing in Fuerteventura

Previously we wrote here about windsurfing in Fuerteventura so you probably wont be surprised to hear that surfing is also a popular pursuit. The best time of year without a doubt for surfing is late Autumn and Winter as that’s when the big waves really hit.

The best spots on the island tend to be in the north with plenty of options for pros as well as novices. There is usually lots of space and many “unridden spots” however surfers are warned to be aware of the unpredictable winds.

The North Track is where you will find many favoured surf spots. It goes from Corralejo to El Cotillo (lighthouse) and would take about an hour in your Fuerteventura Airport car hire. Beware that the surface becomes difficult once you go past Majanicho so its not great for small vehicles.

Keep in mind that you should bring food with you as the further you go on this trail, the less shops you will see. There are also a few surf schools on the island that are worth checking out such as Homegrown in Corralejo.
